Role and Responsibilities
Disability support workers are the core of Your Own Way and provide direct services to people funded under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life (NDIS website, 2020).
In your role the day-to-day will vary as per the participant’s requirements but may include the following;
- Assistance with Daily Life
- Transport
- Improved Life Choices
- Improved Daily Living Skills
- Domestic activities including cleaning services

- Improved Health and Wellbeing
- Improved Learning
- Personal Grooming
- Assistance with Social & Community Participation

- Knowledge/Life experience of chronic Mental Illness and its challenges Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Certificate III Individual support; or
- EN/RN training/certificates; or
- 2+ years’ experience supporting a person/s impacted by mental health disorders or disability
- Physically capable to attend personal care to participants as required
- Current First-Aid and CPR certificate

- Current valid Driver’s Licence
- Current NDIS Screening Check
- Current Working with Children Check
- Right to Work within Australia
- Current Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance (for participant transportation)
- Physically capable to attend personal care to participants as required
Full-time availability is not essential as we have both short and long shifts across 7 days.
