JOB DESCRIPTION

The Support People is a leading registered NDIS provider in regional Victoria, creating an inclusive world where people with disability live the life of their choosing with our support. Many of the people we support have psychosocial disabilities and mental illnesses. The Disability Support Worker is a key support role for the delivery of supports to our NDIS Participants.

You will:

• Provide person centred support to NDIS participants to empower them to live the life they choose and achieve their goals.

• The specifics of the role depend upon allocated NDIS participants but may involve:

o Assisting participants access the community, e.g., shopping, catching up with friends, going to church.

o Supporting participants within our group programs, e.g., bus trips to various locations, recreational activities.

o Skill development, e.g., learning to cook, literacy & numeracy, catching public transport.

o Personal care activities, e.g., dressing, and personal hygiene.

o Medication assistance (if qualified).

o Safely transporting participants to meet their daily commitments and activities.

o Supporting participants to live independently in the community.

What you will need:

• Certificate III in Disability, Individual Support, Community Welfare (or willingness to obtain) OR • For clients requiring literacy and numeracy skill development – a minimum of Certificate III in Education Support, teaching degree or currently studying such qualification.

• The ability to work flexibly around a 24/7 roster. Shifts are available during the day, evening, sleep overs, active night, and weekends.

• The confidence to maintain NDIS participant privacy and confidentiality.

• Excellent active listening skills and ability to communicate with politeness, empathy, and tact.

• To be committed, reliable and punctual.

• Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with participants.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Share our values and have a passion to have a positive impact on those living with disabilities and their families.

• Capability of using mobile phone applications.

Screening and external authorisation requirements:

• NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance

• Completion of NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’, and provision of a copy of the certificate of completion.

• Drivers licence & own vehicle (registered and insured) for transporting clients.

• Use of own smartphone for receiving shifts and entering client progress notes.

• First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003).

• COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate.
