Next Step suite of services include Alternative Care Arrangement (short-term accommodation supports), NDIS supports and services, community supports, daily living and in-home supports, drop-in support, mentoring, supervised contact and or supervised transport and outreach services.

About the Role

We are looking for people who can work independently and are passionate about directly supporting children and young people experiencing trauma in a sensitive and strengths-based way with a commitment to providing the best level of care and support possible.
As a youth support worker, you will provide support with day-to-day living situations, participate in activities supporting the young person’s case plan and empower achieving personal goals. The quality of engagement and participation with each child and young person, ability to motivate and maintain each young person’s development and manage any challenging behaviours are crucial to this role.

Remuneration

Successful applicants will be remunerated under the SCHADS Award (level 2-3). The classification level will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

Essential Criteria

  • Availability to work flexible working hours including shift work, weekends and sleepover shifts
  • Commitment to providing professional and safe services to all clients
  • Commitment to working within the legislative framework and the organisations’ policies and procedures
  • Understanding of the impacts of trauma, its effects on children and young people and the ability to demonstrate knowledge of trauma-informed care
  • High standard of professional ethical behaviour and sound understanding of boundary issues

  
Certifications and Clearances (Must hold or be willing to obtain)
  

  • Be appropriately vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Certificate III (or higher) in Youth Work or Community Services or willingness to obtain within 12 months of employment with Next Step
  • Valid Australian drivers’ licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Australian Police Check (a criminal record check completed within the last 6 months, where a new employee has lived outside Australia for 12 months or more within the last 10 years, an international check is also required)
  • Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screener Check
  • Right to work in Australia (Australian or New Zealand citizenship or relevant working visa documentation)
  • Suitable vehicle (A clean, roadworthy vehicle insured with full comprehensive cover, the vehicle must be capable of transporting passengers in a safe manner)
  • Willingness to undergo thorough checks from the Department of Communities and Justice
