About the Opportunity   

This is a great time to be joining St John Qld as we transform into an innovative and modern organisation. In 2022, we are expanding our Community Care and Support Services (CC&SS) by introducing NDIS services this year! Being part of the CC&SS team and reporting to our Regional Operations Coordinator NDIS, this role will actively support clients, who are either living with a disability or who are aged, to live their fullest life and access their community.

We need to boost our team with a casual Home and Community Care Support Worker in our Bundaberg region. We are looking for a committed and passionate person, who can provide quality personal and community care to our clients. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Personal care responsibilities may include meal preparation, showering, personal hygiene, and other health and wellness related activities
  • Accompanied activities such as supporting clients with their weekly shopping, or attending medical / health appointments
  • Medical support such as enteral feeding, wound and stoma care, bowel care and peg feeding supports
  • Administering medication (if qualified and deemed competent)
  • Supporting clients to access their local community and participate in activities
  • Providing companionship and support of personal and life skills
  • Providing and facilitating safe transportation of clients using SJAQ fleet vehicles, including securing wheelchairs / scooters and checking seatbelts are secure
  • Provide a high standard of customer service
  • Act and communicate in a respectful and professional manner at all times when representing St John Ambulance Qld
  • Undertake other duties as required/directed as service needs change or grow (consistent with the above and within scope of the position) 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum Certificate III in any one of Individual Support, Aged Care, Home and Community Care or Disability (or similar) 
  • Current Provide First Aid and CPR certificate 
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening and Working with Children Blue Card 
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate of Completion
  • Current National Police Check (or ability to obtain one)
  • A current open Queensland driver licence (LR advantageous), plus safe driving skills and record
  • A current Queensland Transport Driver Authorisation (DA) (or ability to obtain one)

About You 

  • Minimum 6 months working experience in Disability Support Work / Personal Care
  • Experience with medical support such as bowel care, continence, and wound care
  • Can safely operate hoists and/or lifting machines
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NDIS and a commitment to its principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – capacity to liaise professionally with a varying client base 
  • Intermediate IT skills, literacy and numeracy and money handling experience
  • Ability to acquire extensive knowledge of the St John Ambulance Qld products and services range
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues in relation to St John Ambulance Qld, consumers and members
  • The ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Proven ability to manage schedules and tasks
  • Excellent understanding of safe manual handling techniques

Conditions of Employment

  • Casual opportunity available in our Bundaberg region
  • Receive a competitive casual rate plus employer superannuation as per ATO/SGC legislation 
  • Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday 6am to 6pm, but we need flexibility to work outside normal hours when required
  • St John Ambulance Qld members must have a zero blood alcohol concentration and must not smoke or take illicit drugs during operating hours
  • St John Ambulance Qld members should not take medication that may affect their duties during operating hours
