Support Workers Aberstone Community Services

JOB DESCRIPTION

Aberstone is seeking female Support Workers to assist with supporting a 23-year-old female participant based in Midland to achieve her full potential in her home and the community, and to help her to develop her independence. This may include the following support:

  • 24/7 in home support accommodation (day shifts / night shifts) 
  • Especially looking for female Support Workers interested in weekend sleepover night shifts; shifts runs from 4.00 pm to 8.00 am with an 8 hour sleep component. 
  • 8 hour shifts available 
  • Penalty rates paid, including enhanced Sleepover Allowance
  • Part time / Full time available 
  • Supervision of showering/bathing. Assistance with appropriate clothing and grooming. 
  • Shopping for and with the participant. 
  • Transport as required. 
  • Supervision of participant’s medication requirements. 
  • Washing, drying, and ironing of personal clothes. 
  • Ensuring that the participant’s appliances are kept in a clean condition. 
  • Performing household duties and ensuring the house is clean and tidy. 
  • Identifying the need for, and supporting the participant to attend, medical/therapist appointments. 
  • Facilitating community inclusion and participation.
  • Support to establish and maintain relationships and interests in community activities, venues, and services. 
  • Supporting fitness, and assisting with social, and confidence building activities. 
  • Teaching real life practical skills such as cooking, preparing meals, cleaning, effective communication, assisting to manage challenging behaviour.

  • Understanding and monitoring the participant’s triggers
  • Understanding the appropriate method of handovers
  • Understanding of professional boundaries, privacy, and confidentiality issues
  • Be enthusiastic and engaging
  • Have excellent verbal communication to interact with the participant, and understand her communication style
  • Have passion, great values, and a can-do attitude
  • Have a friendly and positive outlook
  • Have the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Have a proactive approach to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and the participant

Essential criteria: 

  • Proof of COVID19 vaccine as required under WA legislation
  • Certificate III or higher in Disability, Individual Support, Youth Work, or recovery work in mental health, would be an advantage, or working towards obtaining qualification within 12 months, or lived experience in these areas
  • Good written communication, computer, and mobile device skills; have a mobile phone and access to a computer
  • Current Australian Driver’s License
  • Reliable and roadworthy motor vehicle to travel to participant’s’ home and assist them to access the community, including comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and registration
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate
  • Working with Children Card; or willingness to obtain one
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificates
  • Applicants must have the right to live and work in Australia
