Support Worker (Trauma-Informed) Activated Concepts Consulting and Counselling

JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT US 

Activated Concepts is a community-based specialist clinical provider in the mental health and NDIS space. We also offer a variety of other services, including but not limited to, family support services and clinical training.  

 

We are highly regarded for our leadership in trauma-informed practice, have partnerships with NSW Health, NSW Department of Justice, the University of Newcastle, and large employee assistance providers.  

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE  

Activated Support Workers provide trauma-informed, and person-centred care to participants to support them live a fulfilling and meaningful life in their own community. They have a sound understanding of psychosocial disabilities and see people in their context. They work with youth, people with a disability and others to achieve their individual goals, dreams and aspirations as well as enhance the individual’s participation in the community. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Providing trauma-informed care and support, including personal care, domestic activities, support with medication, social and community participation and skill development activities
  • Implementing programs to support participants to grow their living skills and abilities so they are more able to make decisions affecting their lives and live as independently as possible
  • Provide person-centred care, listening and responding to participants with activities and life outcomes they would like to achieve
  • Handle complex or challenging situations or behaviours calmly and rationally
  • Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high-quality service for people with disability and youth
  • Support the rights, interests and needs of people with disability
  • Maintain the participant’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Maintain a Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check, First Aid/CPR Certificate and a clear Criminal Record.
  • As per NSW Public Health Orders be fully vaccinated (or proof of a medical exemption).

ABOUT YOU 

  • You’re a passionate, empathetic, and caring individual who has experience (or learning about) working with people that have a trauma background and/or mental health difficulties.
  • You are looking to make an invaluable positive impact on the lives of others
  • You’re calm, collected and resilient in the face of adversity and are looking to carry these qualities with you to the front line to support your participants and their families
  • You are an independent, proactive thinker and worker but are also able to follow direction/s given by your managers and can work within a tight-knit team
  • You have good organisational and time management skills
  • You have a good understanding of professional ethics.
  • You love to learn and want to keep your knowledge contemporary.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

  1. Understanding of, or interest in, trauma-informed care and psychosocial disabilities and youth
  2. Minimum of 6 months experience within the industry (e.g. mental health, disability, aged care, individual support, community services or youth work etc.)
  3. Clear and effective communication skills and ability to establish a professional relationship with participant and their families
  4. Attention to detail and accuracy in the record management
  5. Flexibility to work over a roster and the availability to work overnight shifts or attend training or meetings as required
  6. Understanding and commitment to confidentiality legislation and discretion
  7. Current valid Australian driver’s license and a registered vehicle with comprehensive insurance

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING 

  1. Current Level 2 First Aid Certificate – prior to commencement
  2. NDIS Worker Screening Check – prior to commencement
  3. NSW Working with Children Check – prior to commencement
  4. NDIS Orientation Certificate – prior to commencement
  5. OCG Child Safe Training – prior to commencement
  6. Manual Handling training – desired but not essential

 

We are seeking people wanting to build their workloads to part-time/full-time positions. We also offer the option of a traineeship for workers wishing to progress in their career and complete further studies in the field –  Activated Concepts will cover these costs. There are 4 roles available as well.
