The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South- East Queensland. Together with our four Aboriginal community-controlled founding members, we are focused on our collective vision of healthy, strong, and vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.

As a Support Worker within our Wide Bay district including Hervey Bay, Maryborough, and surrounding areas, you will have the opportunity to utilise your skills to their full scope. Your role will be varied and your tasks will be designed to meet the individual needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait clients living in the community. The role is community based delivering one-on-one support with clients within their homes through the following tasks:

  • Personal care which includes assistance with showering and personal hygiene
  • Light house cleaning duties
  • Meal preparation
  • Supporting their connection to community based recreational and social activities
  • Transporting and assistance with shopping and going to appointments.
  • Deliver care in accordance with individualised care plans and personal preferences
  • Supportive working environment that encourages opportunities to grow.

About You?

To be considered for this position, candidates must have had their Covid-19 Booster (3rd Dose) prior to the interview stage.

  • Certificate III in Aged Care / Individual Support / Community Care
  • Valid Disability Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card) (Must have prior to commencement)
  • Keen to make a difference for health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged members
  • Experience in providing personal care assistance to clients in their homes, according to their care plans (e.g., bathing, showering, grooming, nutrition, oral hygiene)
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate & CPR Certificates
  • Reliable vehicle with proof of registration

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  •  Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities.
