In Mackay we are fortunate to assist a diverse range of NDIS participants in our Supported Independent Living, Community Access, Programs and Respite Accommodation services.  Our clients have a range of disabilities and challenging behaviours. We are seeking Support Workers who are resilient and have a sound understanding of the importance of supporting people in line with our commitment to the NDIS practice standards.

An Engedi Disability Support Worker is responsible for providing supports that are relevant to the client’s needs, that fit within their individual NDIS goals.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting our clients’ individual needs in the least restrictive way possible;
  • Mentoring clients and assisting them to develop skills  – guiding people to develop independent living skills- “do with, not for”;
  • Being a positive role model and provide positive support to our clients’ in areas such as emotional behaviour, personal care and hygiene, transport, education, cooking and domestic duties;
  • Assisting in dispensing client medication and adherence to client support plans;
  • Manual handling;
  • Completing clear, concise and factual handover notes and incident reports;
  • Managing complex and challenging client behaviours (including aggressive behaviours);
  • Supporting our clients to engage with their local communities and culture through access to Community Participation Programs and recreational activities;
  • Nurturing dignity, autonomy and positive self-esteem.

  • Hold or be working towards obtaining a qualification in disability support;
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal;
  • Current drivers licence (mandatory requirement);

  • Current First Aid Certificate (mandatory requirement);
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module (mandatory requirement);
  • Be willing and available to work a 24/7 rotating roster which includes evenings, awake shifts, sleepovers and weekend shifts;
  • Preferably previous experience supporting people with a range of behavioral concerns and needs;
  • Basic computer literacy (training provided on our systems).
