Disability Support Worker

Service Types: Community Supports, Supported Independent Living (SIL), ActivateCentral (All-abilities Recreational Facility) 

Employment Type: Casual

Classification: Level 1 – Level 4

From $30 to $45 per hour

About us

Connect2Supports staff work with PsychCentral Well-being NDIS participants. Psychcentral prides itself on being culturally competent to work with participants and their family from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We have casual on-going roles for immediate starts for the right applicant. Scheduled shift work is also required for some of our participants.

Duties

The specific duties that you will undertake as a support worker will be set and agreed by the person you support or their family. PsychCentral support workers may be asked to provide supports in one or more of the following 8 areas:

  1. Personal care
  2. Help around the house
  3. In home care
  4. Specialist (high needs clients)
  5. Shopping
  6. Transport
  7. Social and Community Access
  8. Program supports

Responsibilities

  • Support clients to participate in age-appropriate activities and tasks including employment, in home support and community access.
  • Support clients to access activities and outings in the community.
  • Assist in building participant self-image and confidence
  • Provide direct care assistance to each client in accordance with their service plan and as directed by Management 
  • Medication Management
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of the clients and report any concerns to the Manager.
  • Provide one-on-one support in response to individual client needs.
  • Display a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of PsychCentral.
  • Have a commitment to teamwork and contribute to the team and organisational performance.
  • Ensure that the NDIS Code of Conduct is adhered to at all times.
  • Have a working knowledge of PsychCentral policies, including our Code of Conduct and Health and Safety procedures, with special emphasis on the Risk Management, Manual Handling, Emergency Preparedness and Online Reporting. Information about these policies and procedures will be provided to you during your time at PsychCentral.
  • Cleaning duties (equipment and other)
  • Ensure time slots for play and programs are adhered to
  • Supervise the equipment allocated to you throughout your shift
  • Supervise and support participants within our facility and when using equipment

Essential Criteria

The skills required to complete the job will vary depending on the needs of the person seeking support. Please ensure you put as much information as you can about yourself, highlighting your experiences, hobbies and interests. This way, people seeking support/their families will have a good sense of the skills you bring to the role and can determine if you are the right support worker for them. 

Essential

  • Certificate III in individual support or a Certificate IV in Disability or other relevant qualification (or working towards obtaining qualification within 12 months).
  • Valid NSW Drivers Licence.
  • A valid Working with Children Check
  • Cleared NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC).
  • Police Criminal Record Check
  • NDIS worker orientation module certificate
  • Covid-19 Infection control training
  • A current First Aid certificate and CPR training
  • Up to date COVID vaccination status
  • Full Australian Work Rights (unrestricted)
  • Understanding of Privacy and Confidentiality laws.

Desirable

  • Experience in the delivery of personal care services and/or challenging behaviours
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work and communicate effectively with clients, their families, community agencies and other professionals.
  • Relevant second language.
  • Manual handling training
