Support Worker (Independent) Private Advertiser

JOB DESCRIPTION

I am looking for an Independent Vegetarian Support Worker to join my team.

15 hours per week to start.

Likely to introduce further for the right candidate

About Me:

I explore invention and innovation, online computer games, bushwalks and hiking and potentially recumbent cycling. I am a vegetarian looking for someone like minded to support me to continue accessing the community, exercise and recreation, and to attend professional appointments while also providing light domestic support.

My areas of expertise include playing GTA Online and Terraria. In addition to this I have an interest in electronics and would like to meet someone competent in the use of Arduino, which would attract a higher remuneration to that suggested below.

About You:

It is ESSENTIAL that you are a vegetarian support worker (or on a plant based diet) who is flexible and perceptive with an understanding of autism and associated psychosocial needs. You may be a student in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work, or another interesting course. OR – You may be someone looking for a career change but have all the right attributes to make a great support worker. While having previous experience supporting people with disabilities may be an advantage, the most important thing to me is that you can commit to helping me achieve my goals and live my life the way I choose to. Please don’t come with the good intention of “fixing me”.

You MUST also have a highly developed Environmental Conscientiousness that informs your behaviour. You must be aware of how your actions contribute to the environmental footprint and act accordingly in a proactive way to mitigate negative consequences.

Finally, a healthy “generalised agnosticism” will be helpful…. and not just in relation to religion! I can explain more about this at interview if we get that far,  but I hold strong views and don’t want to be drawn into argument and discussion defending them.

I’m interested in becoming involved in some new activities (for example recumbent cycling, as mentioned above) and hope to find someone that will help me to get started. You may need to be able to think outside of the box and be creative in how you introduce me to new things. I get along well with people that are easy to tolerate, who are not pushy or demanding, and who successfully manage my expectations. Once we get to understand each other, things usually go pretty smoothly.

To work well with me, you need to respect my lifestyle, be LGBTQI+ friendly, interact with me using Specific, Measureable, Agreed, Realistic, Timebound, Ethical and Recorded communication techniques.

I need you to have the following personality traits for this partnership to be successful;

  • Motivated, organized, understanding/empathetic, honest, committed
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to read between the lines and pick up on non verbal communications
  • Reliable (be here when you say you’re going to be here)
  • Respectful and open minded
  • Maintain Professional boundaries with the ability to keep your personal life at home

Shifts can be flexible so long as my needs are being met, my preference is for minimum 3 hour shift each day. Start times can be negotiated between us, and may vary depending upon weather conditions, and planned activity. This is something we can work on together.

You will need to have the usual requirements –

  • Your own ABN / or be registered with HumDrum
  • Full Australian driver’s license
  • Roadworthy, fully insured and registered vehicle with working air con
  • Current first aid certificate including CPR
  • National Police Clearance (less than 6 months old) OR NDIS workers clearance if you have one
  • Covid-19 Double Vaccination certificate

What you get?

  • Good pay rate, dependent on skills and experience, and time/day of shift, ranging from $40 per hour to start.
  • A long term commitment to building a good relationship together
  • Flexible and Adult working relationship based on frank and honest exchange.

I am keen to get someone on board ASAP, so if this sounds like the role for you, please hit Apply now, and I will get in touch if I also see something that might work.

Please include your resume, and a cover letter indicating what is unique about you, or why you think we could work well together.

I look forward to hearing from you.
