About the role
Comlink Australia provides a range of individual, and group social support and respite services designed to assist our clients to participate in community life, facilitate wellness goals, promote social inclusion and interaction, and support relationships between carers and clients. Comlink Australia provides tailored, high-quality support services to clients aged 65 years and over (or 50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), including clients with diverse needs such as people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, people living with dementia, people who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and people who live in rural and remote areas, amongst others.
We are on the lookout for Lifestyle Assistants who are passionate about assisting older people at our respite events, on outings, with one-on-one support and at social groups. Each day will be a little different, we aim to provide fun – not only for our clients but for you, too! You might find yourself attending trips to the beach, assisting with an arts and craft class, visiting a local gallery or library, or assisting with lunches and activities at a respite centre.
As part of the team, you will be directly involved in the events to make sure our clients go home with a big smile on their face. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Driving clients to and from event locations whilst always maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Providing direct personal care to the client, including assisting clients with their mobility, assisting clients in and out of a vehicle, assistance with meals or toileting, or other identified needs.
- Assisting clients socially on a one-on-one basis including sitting and conversing with clients.
- Supporting the conduct of the event and ensuring that activities run as planned.
- Maintaining a professional relationship, while demonstrating genuine care for the clients.
- Liaising with event coordinators and office personnel as required.
- Monitoring and reporting on client’s health and wellbeing.
- Recognising and responding to clients’ conditions and needs.
- Ensuring all clients are treated with dignity and respect and are supported.
- Administrative tasks and other program support.
Other important information
- Multiple positions available from August 2022
- 8+ hours per week, ongoing casual basis
- Positions available in Ipswich, Brisbane South, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane North, Caboolture, and Townsville
- Kilometre-reimbursement offered for use of own vehicle
Essential Selection Criteria
- Minimum Certificate III qualification i.e., Individual Support, Aged Care, Community Services.
- Current Driver’s License (Light Rigid is desirable, but not essential).
- A comprehensively insured, reliable car.
- Experience working with aged clients.
- The commitment to represent Comlink with pride and help make lives better.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with special needs clients, including those from from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, and clients living with dementia.
- Current First Aid & CPR qualification.
- Up to date Influenza and COVID vaccinations.
- Willingness to obtain QLD Restricted Drivers Authorisation (RDA).
- Willingness to obtain Disability Worker Screening and Working with Children Check.
