Disability Support Workers – Complex Behaviour Focus ACT

Focus ACT is currently seeking Disability Support Workers to support a variety of clients with varied needs, including many with complex behaviours. You must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on a permanent basis. More hours are available, with contracts up to 76 hours per fortnight considered upon worker review.

The role of a Disability Support Worker is to actively engage with people so they may live as independently as possible. The program of support is tailored to each individual and may include a combination of domestic, personal and social assistance that is provided in line with the Disability Services Act, the National disability standards and in a way that supports enabling each person to live ‘their’ life.

Duties include:

  • Assisting and support individuals to develop independence by facilitating participation in budgeting, shopping and related tasks of managing their own home;
  • Assisting individuals with their personal, health and/or medical requirements including medications;
  • Undertaking domestic, household and cooking duties in a way that enhances the support of the individual, such as training and upskilling the individual to maximise level of independence;
  • Assisting individuals to develop and maintain personal, family, community and social relationships;
  • Assisting individuals to be part of the community and develop their social skills and networks;
  • Participating in designing the support plan that will deliver the client driven outcomes;
  • Implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans to mitigate risk of complex behaviours;
  • Adhering to any available guidance, tailor communication style/technique in line with clients’ complex communication requirements; and
  • Supporting clients to achieve their personal goals.
     

Essential requirements:

  • WWVP Card (with NDIS activities) 
  • Police Check (Or willing to undertake one)
  • A valid Australian Driver’s License
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Current First Aid & CPR qualifications
  • Minimum industry Certificate III in Disability (please note, we DO NOT accept certificates in ageing given many of our clients are not elderly)
  • Must be able to work as part of a rotating roster
  • Must have access to a reliable motor vehicle when working
  • Must have comprehensive car insurance
  • Must have experience dealing with complex behaviours
